Instructions: How to Make Valentine’s Day Candy Hearts
-
Roll It Out Start by taking a portion of clay from your Sunday & Clay Starter Kit. Roll it into a ball and flatten it with the rolling pin included in the kit. Aim for about 0.5 cm thickness.
-
Cut Out the Hearts Use your heart-shaped cookie cutters to cut out sweet heart shapes from the flattened clay. If you don’t have cookie cutters, no worries—you can freehand heart shapes with a sculpting tool.
-
Smooth the Edges Dip your finger in a bit of water and gently smooth out the edges of each heart. This step ensures they look polished and professional.
-
Create Holes for Hanging Use a wooden dowel or skewer to poke a hole at the top of each heart. Make sure the hole is big enough for your string or ribbon to pass through later.
-
Let Them Dry Lay your hearts on a flat surface and let them air dry for 24-48 hours. Flip them over halfway through to ensure even drying.
-
Paint Your Candy Hearts Once dry, paint your hearts in fun Valentine’s colours like pink, red, white, and lavender. Don’t forget to let the paint dry completely before moving to the next step!
-
Add Sweet Messages Using a permanent marker, write cute Valentine’s messages like “Be Mine,” “XOXO,” or “You’re Sweet.” You can get as creative as you like here!
-
String Them Up Thread string or ribbon through the holes, tie a knot, and voila! Your candy hearts are ready to be hung or gifted.
Tips for Personalisation
- Add Sparkle: Sprinkle glitter onto the wet paint for a sparkly finish.
- Go 3D: Stack smaller hearts on top of larger ones before drying for a layered effect.
- Gift It: Package them in a cute box or use them as Valentine’s Day decorations around your home.
Styling Tips
- Use these candy hearts as personalised Valentine’s gifts or decorations.
- Create a garland to hang over your mantle or as a table centrepiece for a Valentine’s Day party!
